Fast Facts About National Spouse Day
- There is no official founding story for National Spouse Day. – The origins trace back the early 2000’s but there is no clear idea of where it came from. Some people theorize that it was developed to work in conjunction with Military Spouse Appreciation Day, but we don’t see much to back that up.
- The timing of the holiday is either intelligently intentional or strikingly lucky. – Often, couples make New Year’s resolutions to improve their relationships. Data shows that by the end of January (around the time of National Spouse Day), nearly 43% of people have given up on their resolution. What’s great about the timing of this holiday is it helps to reinvigorate things after three weeks, with Valentine’s Day doing the same about 3 weeks later!
- Some people have adapted the holiday to be Partner Appreciation Day. – The idea behind this is that it can be a holiday not just for married people, but for everyone in committed relationships. We’re good with this because we love more reasons to celebrate, but there is already a National Couples Day in August that serves this purpose.
